Milna

Milna is a small village located in the western part of island Brač, 18 km from Supetar ferry port. As a former main island port, Milna flourished in the age of sailing ships, surrounded by a large bay it was a perfect shelter from bad weather, so the Venetians called it Valle di mille navi (valley of thousand ships).

Milna was founded in XVI ct around the Family Cerinić castle. The same family also built a small church of St. Mary. Buildings that dominate in Milna are storey houses that were owned by ship owners and ship captains from XVIII and XIX ct. Their sailing ships sailed throughout the Mediterranean Sea and far away oceans.

In the mid nineteenth century the shipyards have built as many as 16 sailing ships. A prototype of typical Dalmatian boat bracer (named after Italian name for island of Brač – Brazza) was constructed in Milna.

A bay Milna is situated in splits into two sleeves, Žalo and Pantera. Today this area has a modern marina equipped for safe stay and service to all yachtsmen from around the world.

About Brač

Island of Brač is the highest island in the Adriatic Sea (Vidova gora, 780 m), largest island in Central Adriatic. It is famous for its olive oil, fine wines, and most of all, it is known for its perfectly white Brač stone that is used in stone masonry and building industry. It is 40 km long and in average 12 km wide. With its area of about 400 km², it is perfect for exploring all the beautiful locations, churches, bays.

Brač has a long history; archaeological findings date the existence of human communities on the island back to the palaeolithic. It is filled with prehistorical remains; it was inhabited by Illyrians and Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, Austro-Hungarian Empire. For a short period of time it was even under French and Russian government.
